Mykonos is an island of the Aegean Sea and belongs to the complex of Cyclades. It composes a single island complex along with Delos, Rhenia and some other skerries. Chora is the capital of the island. Mykonos was one of the first islands that met touristic development. Thousands of tourists came to visit the island since the decade of 1960’s, and have established Mykonos as one of the most touristic islands of the Mediterranean.

Mykonos town charms the visitor from the first time, due to its amazing location and architecture. At Ftelia, excavations have revealed a settlement from the Neolithic era, circa the 5th millennium BC. Archaeological excavations at Chora, have brought to light a Mycenaean tomb from the 14th-13th century BC and many significant findings. This tomb is one of the few famous ones in Cyclades. It is said that this tomb might belong to a Trojan hero, Ajax of Lokris, son of the king of Lokris, Oileas. However, nothing compares to the emotions inspired by the evocative ruins of ancient Delos. In mythology, Delos is said to be the birthplace of the gods Apollo and Artemis. For this reason, Delos was a sacred site during the ancient times. During the Hellenistic and Roman periods, the island became an important commercial center and it is estimated that it had around 30,000 residents.

A whole town, with its streets and markets, public buildings and temples, luxury homes and stores, cisterns, mosaic columns and ancient wells everywhere around. Bathed in sunlight, they spread between the hill of Kynthos and the harbor with its crystal clear waters, giving visitors the impression that they just stopped working yesterday.

Mykonos welcomes hundreds of thousands of tourists each year, including many celebrities from around the world, establishing the island as one of the most popular in Greece.
